Wirra Wirra - ‘Sparrows Lodge’ Tawny Port (NV)

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Phwoar - this is a tasty Tawny. It’s got orange zezt combined with orange blossom honey as a primary flavour, with mocha and burnt toffee backing it up - these combine very nicely to form a full, mouth filling flavour that is not too intense. There seems to be a little fire/heat wilst in the […]

Wirra Wirra - “Sparrows Lodge” Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

This Cab Sauv from Wirra Wirra is a fantastic drop. I think it deserves a phwoar Seems the 2006 goes for $30/btl I’d suspect that I got mine on sale somewhere for around the $20 mark but I still think it would be worth $30AUD as price of admission. The nose is fantastic and […]

The joys of a good drop of wine.

It seems that having the occasional drop of red wine could really be good for you.  The catch is that it seems the resveratrol is something that is very helpful for your health and diet and can be found in red wine (albeit in small quantities) yet not so much in white wine. So don’t […]

Jim Barry - Three Little Pigs Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon/Malbec(Clare Valley) 2004

Friday, February 29th, 2008

This interesting blend of Shiraz, Cab Sauv and Malbec is rather tasty but beginning to show its age.
Smell - hint of menthol, red fruit and red berries.
Taste - Chunky wine with a great weight and phenomenal finish. Black fruits and berries up front, some slightly sour(this was nice, somewhat juicy) fruit and spices mid to […]

Seaview - Pinot Noir/Chardonnay Brut - Traditional Method (1999)

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Nose - Hints of multi grain toast with a lemon or lime butter with the ever tiniest whiff of nutmeg and cinnamon.
Palate - explosion of little bubbles, nice sour apple with citrusy flavours and the yeasty notes that one would expect from a “methode traditionelle”, slight nuttiness ending with a wonderfully refreshing acidic crispness - […]

d’Arenberg - “Galvo Garage” - Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot (2003)

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Left to decant for 2.5 hours before trying.
Nose - The initial overpowering smell of black currants and other red fruit have blown off - they are there but much more muted. HInts of mint and freshly opened liquorice (black) here. Very subtle hints of a forest fire miles away whilst you’re standing in a wet […]
