It would appear that cruise control is relatively safe to use on wet roads and icy roads. Under certain circumstances (roads you will not need to slow down and accelerate on). Cruise is linked to speed, something that if traction is lost will appear to increase to the cruise control system causing it to REDUCE revs of the engine (not the run away accelleration many chain emails claim).
