Windows Media Player (WMP 9 and 10) can infact take screenshots. The standard windows “Print Screen” functionality which leaves you with a blank box when used is unable to take screenshots, because to speed up and make video playback smooth things like Media Player and most DVD software use something called “video overlay” which effectivly dumps the video to a special place on the graphics card that sends it stright to your display (bypassing the normal windows “drawing” process).
To get around this, the WMP developers have included a special key combo that will save what you are seeing (unscaled, in original size) to disk – the Key combo is: Control I (CTRL-I).
