Australian IT – Metal company mines CSC skill (Ben Woodhead, AUGUST 22, 2006)

Not a good day for BHP/Bluescope/OneSteel shareholders.

Personally if I were a customer I’d be finding an alternative supplier, but I may just be bitter, twisted and disinfranchised. Disclaimer – I have never worked for CSC

  1. You shouldn’t be making such remarks without knowing the organisation. I have mates who work for CSC over at OneSteel and they seem to have it quite good. IT is booming over there and they can’t get the people to fill the positions because no one wants to go and live over there. The systems that OneSteel are using over there are quite old and need some serious updating. CSC was formally BHP IT but when OneSteel bought the steel works BHP IT was sold to CSC. Anyway the problem with Australia is that there are no alternative suppliers and that is why Bluescope steel is trying to stop the OneSteel merger because that would create a monopoly for one type of steel product that only OneSteel and smorgon’s makes. But it all comes down to the fact that Bluescope and OneSteel both formally BHP steel have been around a long time and know how to make steel and make it well so why would you want to look at an alternative from china etc etc where the iron ore isn’t even that good quality anyway.

  2. My remarks are based on personal experience (continual, and bad!)

If they have people who know their elbows from their glute’s I’d be well surprised!
