Currency Creek Estate – Shiraz (2003)
“The Creek Station” as it is branded from Currency Creek in South Australia have this Shiraz out which is good for drinking now, there is no over all amazingness to it that would make it my staple, but it is definatly not unpleasent with few of the harsher flavours associated with young bulk wine.

Young Maid – Cherry Port (NV)
Whilst visiting Young in NSW I picked up a bottle of “Cherry Port” from “The Jam Factory” (Young is a big cherry growing region). This port is sickly sweet with a hint of toffee/caramelisation. It was not entirely displeasing, but definatly way too sweet. I’d not reccomend it for people looking for a different style/type…

Wynns (Coonawarra Estate) – Cabernet Sauvignon (1997)
Woah! This is one seriously nice Cab Sav! It has it all negligable sulphur, non over powering alcohol flavour and ooodles of fruit, tannins and wood, mixed to perfection, a mild initial hit on the pallete, a decent mid range and a simply AWESOME (almost never ending) after taste filled with rich granny smith flavours.…

Hamilton “Burton’s Vineyard” – Grenache Shiraz (1999)
This interesting “Old Bush Vine” wine hails from the McLaren Vale in South Australia (the home of much goodness :P). The best thing this wine does is to mix the pepperyness of shiraz grapes with my childhood memories of eating Grenache picked right from the vine on a fruit block. It is very complex and…

Chandon – Cuvee Riche (non Vintage)
This sparkling white made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, has a very interesting colour somewhere between yellow and orange, and is the only form of Pinot thus far that I have enjoyed. Unlike some sparkling whites this does not have a sour taste, yet it is not overly sweet. It was opened to celebrate/commiserate…

Wolf Blass – Grey Label – Cabernet Sauvignon (Langhorne Creek) – 2004
Woah! This is one awesome cab sav. Very young being a 2004 vintage, I would HIGHLY reccommend grabbing a 1/2 case or so and cellaring for several years (6-8 says the label). The potential of this wine is excellent. It may be a screwcap, but one should remember that this will render the wine less…

Penfolds – Bin 407 – Cabernet Sauvignon (1998, 1999)
Welcome to oak city, and what a lovely place it is. Rich deep tannins render these vintages very deep, dark red in colour. The ’98 is perhaps begining to get a little old (or perhaps not cellared correctly) but both are quite drinkable now. Like the St Henri’s an unrushed and patient period of time…

O’Leary Walker – Clare Valley/McLaren Vale (Shiraz) 2004
Normally I am not a fan of the younger wines, prefering some age in them, but for some reason this drop resonates well with me. Plenty of fruit, hints of wood, but a depth that is surprising not at all watery. A definate keeper more reqired :D. nwld

Penfolds – St Henri Shiraz (1999)
St Henri is my benchmark for wines, many thanks to Andrew who first gave me a bottle of the 1997 vintage. The 1999 while not as good as the ’97 is a damn fine wine, it is essential that this drop be given sufficient time to open up, else it does not taste as good,…

Yarra Burn – Pinot Noir (2001)
This drop, while in and of itself is not all that horrible, it has confirmed to me that I do not like wines made from Pinot. They seem too superficial with the fruitiness being nice and strong, but it is not offset well with its acid content. To me its just bam, in your face…
