Wirra Wirra – Woodhenge – Shiraz (2003)
Continuing the theme of reviewing wines well after drinking them, this will be a somewhat waffly not very definitive review of this drop hailing from the McLaren Vale in South Australia! Definate time to get some air into this is ESSENTIAL, but I don’t think it would go much further with cellaring. From what I…

Villa Puccini – Toscana (2000)
This red hailing from Italy, has been aged 12 months in Oak and hails from the Tuscan region. It is a 90% Sangiovese/10% Merlot , and a perfect example of why you should write reviews of wines at the time you drink them and not a week or two later. While not unpleasent it is…

Coriole Vineyards – “Jude Aquilina – Poet Series” – Cabernet Barbera (2004)
This is a rather tasty Cab Barbera, which is much nicer the second night out. (Used a vacuum seal jobbie, and left it on the bench avg temps approx 10C). It manages to balance, wood tannins and fruit, with the sulphery flavours all but non existant. Goes well with spicy foods, or rich meaty foods!…

Peter Dennis – McLaren Vale – Cabernet Sauvignon (2004)
This Cabernet Sauvignon is a passable Cab Sav at present. It does however require several more years in the Cellar to transform itself into a decent drop. I’d reccomend this one with something strong and saucy – french, or italian! M

Vintage El’ Draino
Two bottles not even worth mentioning in an individual post, so they get one. Watery Sulphury Drain Cleaner Penfolds – Thomas Hyland – Cabernet Suvignon (2003) Yalumba – “vintage” Shiraz (2004) Don’t bother – nuff said!

Hardy’s Show Port “Cellar Reserve”
This port from Hardy’s is rather nice, it has all the right flavours – massive quantities of fruit and ooodles of wood. This is very pleasent after a meal on a cold evening.

Currency Creek Estate – Shiraz (2003)
“The Creek Station” as it is branded from Currency Creek in South Australia have this Shiraz out which is good for drinking now, there is no over all amazingness to it that would make it my staple, but it is definatly not unpleasent with few of the harsher flavours associated with young bulk wine.

Young Maid – Cherry Port (NV)
Whilst visiting Young in NSW I picked up a bottle of “Cherry Port” from “The Jam Factory” (Young is a big cherry growing region). This port is sickly sweet with a hint of toffee/caramelisation. It was not entirely displeasing, but definatly way too sweet. I’d not reccomend it for people looking for a different style/type…

Wynns (Coonawarra Estate) – Cabernet Sauvignon (1997)
Woah! This is one seriously nice Cab Sav! It has it all negligable sulphur, non over powering alcohol flavour and ooodles of fruit, tannins and wood, mixed to perfection, a mild initial hit on the pallete, a decent mid range and a simply AWESOME (almost never ending) after taste filled with rich granny smith flavours.…

Hamilton “Burton’s Vineyard” – Grenache Shiraz (1999)
This interesting “Old Bush Vine” wine hails from the McLaren Vale in South Australia (the home of much goodness :P). The best thing this wine does is to mix the pepperyness of shiraz grapes with my childhood memories of eating Grenache picked right from the vine on a fruit block. It is very complex and…
