  • My mate Sean Burford (http://www.ultri.cx) is getting married, so it looks like I will be hitting up Canberra behaving in a seditious manner for his bucks night and wedding. Lets hope the new anti-terror laws are not in effect until after then, my face and general attitude are probably enough to get me locked up for a while :P.

  • Mark’s Sysinternals Blog: Sony, Rootkits and Digital Rights Management Gone Too Far

Sony have gone too far this time. Its just silly for a company to install a rootkit, a buggy root kit that could potentially lead to a compromise in your systems security. Read all about it, and how to remove/avoid it at the link above.

My suggestion- don’t purchase any Sony products and don’t buy any Sony-BMG music albums, that should help keep you nice and safe from the evil hacker menace that is Sony.

  • Due to a shipping mix up with the South Australian wholesaler, bald tyres and a delay of 3 weeks to get what I actually wanted (Toyo T1R’s) I ended up with some TPG’s on my S3. And now after 2500km’s of use it is time for a small review.

Sidewalls: Nice and stiff – sure it may harshen up the ride a little, but they don’t flex and wobble over mid corner bumps keeping the car nice and balanced and it is siginifcantly easy to unconciously travel 5-10km faster through corners on a lazy country drive.

Grip – Wet: Straight line, I would be avoiding as much standing water as possible, they kick up a huge amount of spray and the pattern does not shed the water away from the entirety of the tyre as well as one would hope and expect.

Grip – Dry: Holy a moley very sticky, very nice.

Lateral Movement: The tyres do seem to prevoke more understeer than the dodgy Khumo’s that were on before, but I am undetermined as to weather this is because of higher entry speeds or something else. This is really only noticeable on damp or wet roads, dry roads they seem to stick very well.

Wear: Way to hard to call, due to D.E.C.A. and the setup of the S3, I’ll just be happy if I can get 20k km from them as the front on the S3 seems to munch the inside due to camber/toe in default setups.

Road Noise: This is hard to write about as this is so subjective and is affected by road type, road moistness, temperature etal. I would have to say on smooth roads these things are almost silent, on rubbly big stoned roads very very very noisy and boomy.

Rolling resistance: The car she a drive. I no push to determine this a value. (Say in da italiana accent)

Overall they are not really what I wanted and I will definatly be looking at the T1R’s (or their replacements) next tyre change as they seem to have a better compound and tread design for getting rid of water from what I read and are definatly worth the $30 extra per corner.

Mr Smooth, Jense is not – Latest News from Planet-F1.com

Finally someone said what we have all thought.

Note, I’m not saying that women should not compete in F1, but at least the G’s as they relate to breasts is factual and would need to be considered a risk.

  • The iTunes Music Store (iTMS) is finally here for Australian music fans!

I bought the “Infernal – From Paris to Berlin” album and the songs came down quickly. The quality is not too bad, which is certainly a good thing. The store itself, is actually a little cumbersome to navigate at times (perhaps, because of the way I personally like or expect things to work) but certainly easy. The only real gripe that I have is the stark lack of Dance/Electronica titles especially mixed album’s like Nik Skitz with the Skitz Mix series or Ministry of Sound.

Sony BMG are notable by their absence, which lead’s me to once agian resume my call that people boycott their products in Australia, to ensure that they are aware that it is the CUSTOMERS that they need to look after, as we are the ones who are spending our money on their products.

All in all a good day.

  • I went to DECA (Driver Education Centre of Australia) over the weekend with the fine people from the eurocca.net forums (note: 15March2014 – cleaning up links to removed albums pages)

Had an absolute blast, and learnt lots about how my car handles, especially the tyres and how they behave (or misbehave) in the wet.

Came back to Adelaide via the Great Ocean Road, a mighty fine road with some awesome scenery, highly reccommended!

  • Meal:
Pork and Pruchitto Sausages w/ Mash: $16.90
    Pint of Pale (imperial): $7

The food while tasty was certainly on the smaller size when it comes to portions. I am left with a feeling of wanting more. The sausages far from the fat juicy things I were expecting were small an aenemic, but they did taste very good and as such were not overly bad.

I will probably revist The British pub (which is one street down from Melboure street and slightly west of the road “The Lion” also corners) and see if any of there other meals stack up.

Lunch: Expensive for size but tasty.

  • Cha-Chi’s found at 203 Glen Osmond Road.

    Meal:
1x All you can eat @ 14 (Nacho’s, Burritos (Chicken and Shredded Beef) and Taco’s (Chicken and Shredded Beef))
    1x Corona @ 7.5
    3x Coke @ 3ea – 9 total
    1x Holbah @ 7.5
    1x Fried Apple Burrito @ 7.5

Serves a variety of Mexican foods and has a mexican theme. Wait staff are friendly and helpful if a little hard to find when you want or need them.

Menu prices for non special items look very expensive (my favourite was $32.50 (Fajhitas)).

The mains were a little uninspiring – the Nacho’s were nothing like the hot delight that they are in pubs, the taco’s and burritos were not all that nice relative to home made ones but the combination of the three is very filling.

The deserts were VERY nice and presented excellently, but the oil used to fry the burrito and the chocolate nachos (jake had this) left an unusual and not very nice aftertaste to the meal.

Overall I feel that the contribution of fiddy to the pot would have gone a lot further for a lot better at other resturants, I’d rate this a pass unless you are a cheap uni bum.
